Magic Tournament Association’s March 19 tournament features some of the top Pacific Northwest AAU girls basketball teams, including high-powered Northwest Magic Elite, YEA, and Baden Elite.

The sixth tournament in MTA’s 2010-2011 season is the first to feature high school divisions and will be held Saturday, March 19, 2011 from 8am -9pm at Impact Sports Academy in University Place, WA. 2818 69th Ave., University Place, Washington (map)

“The overall competitiveness and the diversity of teams is what attracts teams,” Northwest Magic Basketball Director, adidas Grassroots Board Member, and SheCanPlay.org Scout, Vanessa McClendon said. “I expect this particular tournament to grow each year and with great programs like Magic, YEA, Tukwila Reign, Baden Elite, the competition is bound to get better and stronger each year. We will have teams traveling from further and further away to play with and against the best.”

The March one-day tournament event has over 35 teams in grades 4th- High School Elite.
Northwest Magic players Katelynn Bunger, Rodericka Ware, and Megan Huff are just a few of Washington’s premier high school players that are very exciting to watch. YEA will bring three High School teams, two in the Elite division featuring top players Darah Huertas-Vining, Raven Benton, Madeline Kasper, and Brittary Mcphee. …..“YEA teams are always really great to play against,” McClendon said. “I know UW is recruiting a few of their girls.” Northwest Magic will have teams in each division playing in the tournament.

Other local teams registered include Tukwila Reign, Tacoma Shine, Lady Elite, Force, and Riverside.

“There’s a good mix of skill levels coming into the tournament,” McClendon said. “We work with coaches during the registration process to try to ensure balanced pools. Placement games always provide good competition. I want to ensure all girls attending have a rewarding and competitive experience at our tournaments.”

Fall League Championships!!!

It was a great weekend of basketball culminating in to a great Sunday Championship! A 3-hour training on Saturday with over 30 Magic girls going through drills, skill sets, and scrimmaging seem to pay off as our 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade teams played great basketball on Sunday.

Congratulations to our 5th grade team who won a tough game against a very tough Lady Heat but fell short in the Championship against the same team by 4. They have a lot to be proud of as they were limited in players but not limited in heart!

Congratulations to our 6th grade girls who placed 1st in our hosted Fall League, only losing one game the entire season and beating a worthy opponent Tukwila Reign in the Championship. The girls played well, with a mission, and with great poise as the game went down to the wire.

Congratulations to our 7th grade Tacoma team, who, by default took the 7TH grade Championship. They were undefeated the entire league season. They played up in the 8th grade division to even brackets out during the championship and gave our Elite-8th grade team a run for their money as they were up by 10 at halftime. Maturity set in as they lost against our 8th graders but have grown and learned a lot just from that experience. We are so proud of these girls.

Congratulations to our 8th grade Team as they lost some close games this fall league but was able to win when it really counted. 8th grade elite, our fall league champions!! 8th graders beat Shotcallers, a team that has beaten them a few times this year, in the Championship game, quite convincingly.

Finally, congratulations to all the Magic teams. 4th, 5th, 6th, two 7th grade teams, and 8th -elite. It has been a great 7 weeks of basketball. Each team has improved so much, its a joy to watch this process.

As usual....moving forward, getting better....GO MAGIC!!!!!!
