Magic Tournament Association’s March 19 tournament features some of the top Pacific Northwest AAU girls basketball teams, including high-powered Northwest Magic Elite, YEA, and Baden Elite.

The sixth tournament in MTA’s 2010-2011 season is the first to feature high school divisions and will be held Saturday, March 19, 2011 from 8am -9pm at Impact Sports Academy in University Place, WA. 2818 69th Ave., University Place, Washington (map)

“The overall competitiveness and the diversity of teams is what attracts teams,” Northwest Magic Basketball Director, adidas Grassroots Board Member, and SheCanPlay.org Scout, Vanessa McClendon said. “I expect this particular tournament to grow each year and with great programs like Magic, YEA, Tukwila Reign, Baden Elite, the competition is bound to get better and stronger each year. We will have teams traveling from further and further away to play with and against the best.”

The March one-day tournament event has over 35 teams in grades 4th- High School Elite.
Northwest Magic players Katelynn Bunger, Rodericka Ware, and Megan Huff are just a few of Washington’s premier high school players that are very exciting to watch. YEA will bring three High School teams, two in the Elite division featuring top players Darah Huertas-Vining, Raven Benton, Madeline Kasper, and Brittary Mcphee. …..“YEA teams are always really great to play against,” McClendon said. “I know UW is recruiting a few of their girls.” Northwest Magic will have teams in each division playing in the tournament.

Other local teams registered include Tukwila Reign, Tacoma Shine, Lady Elite, Force, and Riverside.

“There’s a good mix of skill levels coming into the tournament,” McClendon said. “We work with coaches during the registration process to try to ensure balanced pools. Placement games always provide good competition. I want to ensure all girls attending have a rewarding and competitive experience at our tournaments.”
