Fall League Championships!!!

It was a great weekend of basketball culminating in to a great Sunday Championship! A 3-hour training on Saturday with over 30 Magic girls going through drills, skill sets, and scrimmaging seem to pay off as our 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade teams played great basketball on Sunday.

Congratulations to our 5th grade team who won a tough game against a very tough Lady Heat but fell short in the Championship against the same team by 4. They have a lot to be proud of as they were limited in players but not limited in heart!

Congratulations to our 6th grade girls who placed 1st in our hosted Fall League, only losing one game the entire season and beating a worthy opponent Tukwila Reign in the Championship. The girls played well, with a mission, and with great poise as the game went down to the wire.

Congratulations to our 7th grade Tacoma team, who, by default took the 7TH grade Championship. They were undefeated the entire league season. They played up in the 8th grade division to even brackets out during the championship and gave our Elite-8th grade team a run for their money as they were up by 10 at halftime. Maturity set in as they lost against our 8th graders but have grown and learned a lot just from that experience. We are so proud of these girls.

Congratulations to our 8th grade Team as they lost some close games this fall league but was able to win when it really counted. 8th grade elite, our fall league champions!! 8th graders beat Shotcallers, a team that has beaten them a few times this year, in the Championship game, quite convincingly.

Finally, congratulations to all the Magic teams. 4th, 5th, 6th, two 7th grade teams, and 8th -elite. It has been a great 7 weeks of basketball. Each team has improved so much, its a joy to watch this process.

As usual....moving forward, getting better....GO MAGIC!!!!!!

Fall Classic Update

Northwest Magic Players, Coaches, & Parents

This weekend was an exceptional weekend of basketball as Northwest Magic hosted our own Fall Classic Tournament. Congratulations to all teams that participated. 4th graders played 2 games, splitting 1-1. The second game was an exciting experience as NWM-4th beat Lady Force 22-21. All girls played well and it was a great team win. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough teams to host a 5th grade division, so our 5th grade team did not play, however, our 5th graders will be busy during the Dec tournament because many organizations have signed up and it looks promising. Congratulations to the 6th graders and 8th graders who took the Championship! The 6th graders went undefeated! 8th graders 3-1. A special thanks to our wonderful 7th grade team. I appreciate your flexibility and commitment to Northwest Magic as you all were understanding as we had to change the schedule due to some teams dropping out last minute.

I want to thank the players, coaches, and parents for making this weekend an enjoyable experience. I looked forward to going to the gym every day. Players, your parents couldn't’t have been more supportive of you and the program as they volunteered their time and supported each player in various games. Thank you Coaches for doing your part. Great leadership. The girls are lucky to have you. Thank you to Gerald for directing the tournament. His quick fixes and quick adjustments made for a smooth weekend. Thank you to the officials who were very flexible with their time and our changes.

Upward and onward....our goal is to get better each time. Looking forward to our next hosted tournament, Holiday Hoopfest, to be held Dec 3-5, 2010. GO MAGIC!!!!!

Hosted Fall Classic

Hi everyone:
Our first hosted tournament of the season is just day after tomorrow. I am looking forward to a great weekend of basketball and hope you are, too.

The schedule has been revised and is posted online:http://www.northwestmagicgirlsbasketball.com/xtm_files/2010%20Fall%20Festival%20Schedule%202010%2011%2011v3%20Email%20to%20Teams.pdf

Magic Teams' schedules are at the below of this email.

Some important reminders:
  1. Girls need to have both white and blue uniforms with them; our colors may need to change through the course of the tournament depending on what our opponents are wearing.
  2. Please make sure that girls are at the gym one hour prior to their game times. We'd love for as many Magic Families as possible to stay after their games and support all of the other teams playing, too.
  3. Every family needs to commit 2 hours of parent time, and 2 hours of girl time over the weekend. Please sign up on line. If you don't choose a "task," we'll let you know where and when we need your help. If you'd prefer, you may pay $20 to offset your adult time, but girls still need to help :-) Here's a link to the sign up sheet: https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0Auw_DFarm1-ldDhkdl9ZRjRoTUtyWUNHOWFpS3FXc2c&hl=en#gid=0
Team unavailability made a 7th grade division not possible, so we've created a JV division which will host 7th, 8th, and 9th grade teams. Within that division, our 8th graders will play as Magic Elite. I've also decided that our 7th graders will play as one Magic Junior Elite team. While we may need to make adjustments over time, the coaches and I decided that the cohesion of our Magic Family and the overall development of our girls will be the focus of our Fall Festival tournament. We don't anticipate Elite and Junior Elite having to play one another.

As always, thanks for your support and GO MAGIC!!!
